Emotional and Stress-Eating

Delegate

Two arms: one handing a document to the other person

Let’s get back into that priority list I introduced here and talked a bit more about here. It’s important for emotional / stress / comfort eaters because doing too much can be a big part of what drives that eating.

What if someone else could do some things that you think you have to? Delegation is an excellent way to slim down your to-do list.

I recently talked with one of my favourite clients about the stress of organising the work Christmas do.  I asked, “Do you have to organise it?” (I used to be a performance auditor, and I love questioning the basics. 😊)

The look on her face was priceless. “OMG! No! I can give that to someone else.”

What would stop you from delegating? Try these:

1. They might say ‘no’

It’s true, but you’re no worse off for finding that out.
Pro tip: present it as an opportunity, rather than something you’d rather be rid of. For some people, it IS an opportunity.

2. They wouldn’t be able to do it

Is that really true? Could this be their chance to learn? Don’t deprive them of that.
They might not do it as perfectly as you think you can do it – but you don’t have the capacity to do it ‘perfectly’ anyway.

3. If I don’t do it, I have no role / no value

Really let that one sink in. Is that belief stopping you delegating even when you’re overwhelmed?  If so, that’s worth working on. It takes more than a blog so come and work with me: www.asimplerlife.co.nz
