Emotional and Stress-Eating
Get ready for change

Brains aren’t usually a big fan of change. They prefer what they perceive to be safety. That’s not always the same as actual safety.
Addressing emotional / stress / comfort eating usually takes a change of thinking. Before you tackle that, though, it can be useful to start making small changes, so your brain starts to get a little more comfortable.
Here are a couple of straightforward things to try:
1. Put your clothes on differently.
If you usually put your right arm or right leg in first, try your left arm or leg. If you put your left shoe on first, put your right one on first instead.
Bonus step: if you put a t-shirt or jersey on, use that first arm in to lift the garment over your head too. (You’ll see what I mean when you try it. Stay alert for what automatically happens.)
2. Pick up your plates and cups with hand you don’t usually use to do that.
To avoid disaster, start with things that don’t contain hot liquid or food, and pick them up one at a time.
And leave your mum’s best china until you’re at ninja level.
Ease your brain into change.
